SOFT FENCE

A barbwire fence covered in soft and attractive material. The artist places protection over something that is notoriously employed to defend those who use it and to hurt those who try and cross it. Severe and razor sharp blades become harmless thanks to the gel: the contrast between these two materials bearing conflicting characteristics and scopes is the starting point for Beutler’s research. The Technogel®, whose aim is to give happiness and comfort in everyday life, wraps up the wire, offering the possibility to touch it and handle it with no fear of injuries. The artist, who usually creates proper architectural structures, which visitors are called to enter and play their part in, in this case approaches the Technogel® designing a sculpture-installation, a circle of 3 meters of diameter, inviting the audience to gently change their path. Author: Michael Beutler Title: Soft fence Year: 2011 Dimensions: 300cm diameter, 50cm high Technique: poured Technogel® Materials: Technogel® and concertina razor barb wire
